Our Friends, Ron and Tammy

I’m writing from the heart today. I just signed onto my Google account and glanced at the suggested friends. That list included by friend, Tammy Balzer. Tammy was the owner of Nicky and Beth (Artie and Buddy’s parents). I used the word WAS because unfortunately a terrible accident happened back on August 11, 2014. Ron, Tammy, and their 3 year old granddaughter, Hayleigh, were headed from Tennessee to Florida to take Hayleigh back to her parents. She had been visiting with her Grandma Tammy and Grandpa Ron for two weeks. The accident occurred in Georgia. Ron and Tammy were slowing down for another accident that occurred ahead of them when a semi truck, traveling very fast, hit them from behind. The impact immediately killed Ron, Tammy, Hayleigh, and Beth (the female dog).  There was also a victim in another car who died. It was absolutely tragic.

The Balzers

I am still shocked today that they are no longer here on Earth, rather they are with our Lord in Heaven. Ron and Tammy were part of my life for about 25 years. They were my youth leaders at church. They were so full of fun, laughter, and joy! That joy came from the Lord they served. Ron went on to pastor a church and later became Superintendent of the New South Conference of Free Methodist Churches. Both Ron and Tammy were loved by people all over the world, literally!!!

It was in August 2009 that I became reacquainted with Ron and Tammy through Artie (yes, our dog!).  As mentioned before, Tammy was looking for someone to adopt Artie. We became the blessed ones! Artie has brought us so much joy, and he allowed us to become “family” with Ron and Tammy. For the next few years, when Ron and Tammy came to Michigan to visit family, we were invited to be part of their gatherings. Artie of course would come along too and he’d get to see his doggie parents. Every gathering was so much fun. Ron was always the jokester – he was gifted to make people laugh and smile. Tammy was the quieter one – she cared so much for others and always had the right words. We enjoyed those gatherings even though they occurred about once a year.

Ron and Tammy came to visit on December 20, 2009. It was that day that they brought us another buddle of joy, Buddy! You see…Artie needed a buddy, another dog to play with and cuddle. I think Artie and Buddy knew they shared the same DNA as they loved each other immediately. It was such an easy transition from one to two!! Artie and Buddy have been the best of friends since the day they meet.

I am blessed to have Artie and Buddy along with the memories of Ron and Tammy. It’s like a part of Ron and Tammy is with me every day.  My thanks to Ron and Tammy for blessing my life in so many ways. I love and miss you – we will meet again!

  1. Too many innocent lives are lost each year just because people aren’t paying attention properly to the world around them while they are driving. Hopefully their story will inspire others to be better drivers and avoid this tragedy for others. Condolences on your loss such a sad story.

  2. I am reading this from a link on Five Dollar Shake. I am so sorry for your loss! My heart and prayers go out to you to help soothe you during this terrible time!!
